Prof. Dr. Sc. BUI VAN GA
President of The University of Danang |
Being a major university in Central Vietnam and the
Western Highlands, over the past thirty years, the
University of Danang (UD) has provided the country
with hundreds of thousands of cadres and personnel
in multiple disciplines ranging from engineering,
technology, economics and business administration to
foreign languages and teacher training. The UD
alumni are currently holding important positions in
all aspects of the local and regional socio-economy.
UD has 8 member colleges and affiliated units with
nearly 2,000 staff and over 70,000 students of
different types of training, which to a certain
extent indicates the size and the importance of UD
in the whole higher education system of Vietnam.
If, in the late 90s UD’s goal was to provide mass
training for the working population in response to
the immediate needs of rebuilding the country, then
the institution is now gearing towards training a
contingent of qualified and high quality human
resources with leadership skills, strategic vision,
sharp thinking, and sound adaptability to the world
of work in the age of integration. Hence, the
quality of training and research is always the
number-one priority in all guidelines and policies
of UD.
With a view to responding well to the training
demands of the new age, UD has made constant
renovations in training and management. Since 2006,
the new credit-based training system has been
adopted in all UD colleges. The entire school
management system has been being reshaped to meet
the ISO standards. UD is one of the very first
institutions that have engaged in the Vietnam’s
training quality accreditation system, and several
spearhead disciplines have been accredited by
international accreditation bodies.
The integration between training and research
with teaching-research team model which is in
progress at UD shows its suitability and
applicability in the process and endeavor of
enhancing its existing training quality. Thanks to
major and in-depth investment programs by the State,
in recent years, UD has built a number of modern
laboratories and research centers, along with
team-based training of staff allowing the
institution to speed up the development while
expanding the scope of postgraduate training and
research. Many projects involving research and
technology transfer by UD have been licensed with
patents and applied in practice.
Fostering international cooperation for student
and faculty exchanges so as to promote professional
development, curriculum renovations and pedagogical
change is one of the goals pursued by UD since its
establishment. Collaborative training programs with
international degrees awarded are increasing in
number, facilitating access by many a student in
Central Vietnam and the Western Highlands to
advanced training programs in the world.
Developing UD into a Research University by 2020
with its key roles as training highly qualified
workforce and being a major centre for research and
international exchange for Central Vietnam and the
Western Highlands has become the determination and
strong will of UD’s staff and students. The
construction projects of UD Village on a 300-ha
area, and of 100-ha UD Branch in Kontum Province are
underway, which will undoubtedly create a new face
for UD. The synchronous development of physical
facilities and highly qualified and capable staff
will fuel the institutional achievement of the set
goals.
The University of Danang, the incubator of
intellects and talents for the development of
Central Area and Western Highlands of Vietnam , will
enable you to make your dreams come true! |
